Jennie M. Ostrom, daughter of George and Margaret Ostrom was born on a farm east of Hartwick August 31, 1875. She received her education in the rural school east of Hartwick near where she was born.

January 20, 1897, she was united in marriage to William Dixon of Hartwick. To this union three children were born. After their marriage they farmed in the Hartwick community for a few years, then at Sheldon, Iowa for a short time. Also, they farmed north and south of Brooklyn, then came back to the farm soutwest of Hartwick where they made their home for several years. In January 1956 she and her son Guy moved to Brooklyn to make their home.

Mrs. Dixon was a kind and devoted wife, a wonderful mother and grandmother, always thinking of her family first. She was a good neighbor and friend and always ready to help when she was needed. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends in the community where she has lived so many years.

She was a member of the Hartwick ladies aid for many years.

Her health had been failing for the past four years. She entered the St. Francis hospital in Grinnell March 9, 1956 where she had the best of care and medical aid.

The end came Thursday afternoon, April 4, 1957 at the age of 80 years, 7 months and 3 days.

She leaves to mourn her passing two sons, Guy at home in Brooklyn, George of Cedar Rapids; one daughter, Mrs. Hazel Fish of Belle Plaine; 3 grandchildren and one great grandchild besides other relatives and friends.

Her parents, husband, one sister and five brothers preceded her in death. Her husband passed away Oct. 11, 1953.

Funeral services were held from the Hartwick Congregational church Sunday, April 7th at 2 p.m. with Rev. P. Bechtold and Rev. G.A. Schultz in charge. Mrs. Clair Erickson and Mrs. Calvin Korns sang two songs, "The Old Rugged Cross" and "In the Sweet By and By," with Mrs. Everett Korns, organist.

Flowers were cared for by Mr. and Mrs. Leslie Ormiston, Mr. and Mrs. Ward Fearneyhaugh and Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Messerli.

Casket bearers were Charles Ostrom, Ray Ostrom, Jim Ostrom, Percy Ostrom, Lloyd Lambert and Cliff Williamson, with burial in the Hartwick cemetery.
