TED STAFFANOU RITES TODAY

Ted Staffanou, 84, of Marshalltown, formerly of Grinnell, died Friday morning at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. today at the Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. James Russell of the Grinnell United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be at Hazelwood Cemetery.

The son of Stevens and Estella Staffanou, he was born Jan. 11, 1897, in Athens, Greece. He came to Grinnell in 1916. In 1918, he joined the U.S. Army and served during World War I. Following his discharge, he returned to Grinnell and in association with his brother Peter and James Jorris operated the Candyland candy store on Fourth Ave. here.

On July 18, 1927, he was married to Oral S. Arnold in Grinnell. In the mid-1930's, he owned and operated Ted's Sandwich Shop on Main St. He retired in 1958.

Mr. Staffanou was a member of the Grinnell United Methodist Church, the Grinnell American Legion, and the World War I Barracks. He was a former member of the Hermon Masonic Lodge, the Elks Lodge and the Pythians.

Survivors include his wife of the Iowa Veterans Home; one son, Dr. Robert S. Staffanou of Charleston, S.C.; and three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and one sister.

TED STAFFANOU SERVICES HELD

Funeral services for Ted Staffanou, 84, formerly of Grinnell, who died Friday at the Iowa Veterans Home, were conducted at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the Smith Funeral Home.

The Rev. James P. Russell of the Grinnell United Methodist Church officiated. Organist was Barbara Lien. Pallbearers were William (Abe) Bryan, James C. McNally, Marlyn L. Olson, Clarence (Bill) Peters, Truman Rosedale and Clair Strand. Honorary bearers were LaVaughn Cram, Donovan Evans, Kenneth Saunders, Glen W. Smith and Charles P. Vogel.

Graveside rites were conducted by members of the Grinnell Veterans Ceremonial Unit, with burial at Hazelwood Cemetery. Memorials in Mr. Staffanou's name may be made to Grinnell General Hospital.
