MRS. SAMUEL BURNSIDE

After a lingering illness of many months, Mrs. Samuel Burnside passed away at her home on last Sunday morning, sincerely mourned by husband, children and a large circle of brothers and sisters.

Mrs. Burnside was Laura Cessna and was born in Pennsylvania in 1849. When she was nine years of age the family moved to Davenport and she was married there in 1868 to Samuel Burnside. In 1885 Mr. and Mrs. Burnside moved to Grinnell and the family home has been here continuously ever since. Five children were born to them of whom two, a son, Clifton, and a daughter, Mrs. J.W. Swaney, with the husband and father, survive. There also survive two brothers, John Cessna and N.W. Cessna, of this city, and four sisters, Mrs. J.E. Van Evera, of Grinnell, Mrs. Robinson, of Wichita, Kans., and Mrs. Jacobs and Mrs. Poage, of Oklahoma.

Mrs. Burnside was a woman of sterling worth, a consistent Christian, a devoted wife and mother and her friends were numbered by her acquaintances. For three years she has been a patient sufferer, waiting calmly for the ever approaching end. She will be sadly missed in the home circle and in the community.

The funeral was held at 2:30 o'clock this afternoon from the home on East street.
