NANCY KAY DAVIS MATHES, 45

Nancy Kay Davis Mathes, 45, of New Sharon died Tuesday, August 5, 1997, from cancer, at the Grinnell Regional Medical Center in Grinnell.

Nancy was born January 4, 1952 in Grinnell. She is the daughter of M.B. and Juanita Morrison Davis. Nancy graduated from the Grinnell High School in 1970 and was accepted into the Indian Hills School of Nursing in 1994. Due to illness however, Nancy was not able to complete the program. She was a baker known for her cake decorating and was also a care giver having cared for the elderly in the community. She was a member of the Lacey United Methodist Church where she was active as a Sunday School teacher and was serving as Family Ministries Coordinator. In recent weeks, she had been attending the New Sharon United Methodist Church where she thoroughly enjoyed her Sudnay School class and its members. Nancy was also a member of the Tuesday Morning Bible Study of New Sharon. She enjoyed collecting angels and appreciated and loved the friendship and fellowship of many close church friends.

Funeral services were Friday at the Lacey United Methodist Church in Lacey with Rev. David Arulnathan and Rev. Kevin Glesener officiating the service. Burial will be in the Ewart Cemetery in Ewart.

Nancy is survived by two sons: Michael and Matthew Mathes of Barnes City, two daughters: Michelle Kay "Shelly" Mathes of North English and Kimberly "Kelly" Mathes of New Sharon; her parents, M.B. and Juanita Davis of Grinnell; six sisters and brothers-in-law: Rosemany and Warren Weaver of Grinnell; Patricia and Richard Trucks of Lenox; Beverly Sue and Tom Olson of Round Rock, Texas; Catherine and Roger Gilbreaith of Newton; Debra and Greg Mielak of Oakland Acres; Jacqueline and Jeff Foster of Grinnell and a very special cousin: Carol Jean Osborn.

Memorials may be made to the Lacey United Methodist Church and to Hospice of Mahaska County.
