MRS. R.F. LAVENDER DIED SUNDAY

Mrs. R.F. Lavender, 84, of Newton, died Sunday morning at 9:30 o'clock at the Skiff Memorial hospital, following an emergency operation. She had been in failing health for a number of weeks.

Services will be conducted from the home Wednesday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock by Dr. J. Irvine Walker, pastor of the First Congregational church. Final rites will be held at the Congregational church at Gilman at 3:30 o'clock, with interment to be made in the Gilman cemetery.

Mrs. Laura Lavender was born Feb. 1, 1848 in Eaton, O., and was the last surviving member of a family of five children. She came to Iowa 70 years ago from her native state.

In 1866 she was united in marriage to Rev. R.F. Lavender at Davenport and to this union 10 children were born. Five children survive, all of whom are in Newton for the services.

Rev. and Mrs. Lavender have made their home in Newton since 1900, coming here from Washington county. Rev. Mr. Lavender served as pastor of the Congregational church at Gilman for a number of years.

Mrs. Lavender was a member of the Congregational church, the Women's Relief Corps and the Daily News Three-Quarter Century club.

She is survived by her husband, two daughters, Mrs. Clara Buck, Millersburg; Mrs. Martha Mills, Newton and three sons, L.G. Lavender and D.T. Lavender of Gilman and Clifford E. Lavender of Newton.

Mrs. Lehrl Fritz formerly Miss Lucille Hays of Grinnell is a granddaughter of Mrs. Lavender.--Newton News.
