AN OBITUARY OF VERLE MUCKLER

Verle Albert Muckler died in a hospital at Grinnell on Thursday, Nov. 9, at 2:30 a.m., aged 31 years, one month and 23 days.

He was the oldest son of Nicholas and Minnie Muckler and was born Sept. 16, 1902. He grew to manhood and spent the years of his life in the Newburg community.

On March 11, 1925, he was married to Elizabeth Christina Ahrens, a member of his graduating class of the Newburg school, and to them were born a son and daughter.

He is survived in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Nicholas Muckler; a sister, Mrs. Esther Paul; a brother, Irvin Muckler; his wife, Elizabeth, and their son, Duane, and daughter, Mildred.

Verle Muckler by the manner of his life, exemplified the highest type of Christian manhood. To know him intimately was to admire and respect him. He took an active interest in the affairs of the community. He was president of the Farm Union, a member of the Newburg school board, secretary and treasurer of the Telephone company, and in the newly organized Chester Royal Grange he served as overseer. To those who remain to mourn his loss he has left a heritage of an unselfish service cheerfully rendered.

A mixed quartet composed of Helen Walker, Margaret Newcomer, Lloyd Stoaks, and Ed Newcomer, with Elizabeth Breeden accompanying on the piano, sang three beautiful selections, "The Old Rugged Cross, "Asleep in Jesus" and "Jesus Savior Pilot Me."

The pallbearers were close friends of the deceased, James and Richard Hunter, John Murdock, Arnold Bastian, Frank Newcomer and Howard McKee.

Funeral services were held from the home just east of Newburg Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock, conducted by Rev. H.L. Wissler. Burial was in the Gilman cemetery.
