Grinnell Herald (Grinnell, Iowa) June 4, 1901

MRS. A.W. CHILD

Alice B. Weeks was born in Bath, N.H., July 7th, 1848. She taught school in her native town and in adjoining towns for several years. Came to Grinnell, Iowa, in 1874 to visit a sister, Mrs. J.C. Walker; taught in the public school here one year and returned to her native place. In 1875 was there married to A.W. Child a long time resident of this place but who was also a native of Bath, N.H.

Always nurtured in the Christian faith she united with the church in her younger days and removed her relation to the Congregational church when coming here to make a new home.

She was a prominent member of the church choir so long as she lived in her native town, active and helpful in church and Sabbath school work. Since coming to Grinnell she has been a very effective teacher in Sabbath school, interested in all Christian work. A few years since was constituted a Life Member of the W.B.M.I. by the local auxiliary society of this place.

Modest and retiring in her natural dispositon and averse to all display she was nevertheless a power for good to all with whom she associated. True to her own convictions, not easily swerved from what she believed to be right, loved most by those who knew her best, she has passed on over the river. Hard as it was for her to leave her family and friends, she said repeatedly that it was all right.

She leaves a devoted husband, an affectionate son and a large circle of loving friends and neighbors to mourn her--as it seems to us--untimely death. She died May 27, 1901.
