EVERETT LEE PENFIELD

Everett Lee Penfield was born in Grinnell, Iowa, November 23rd, 1864, and departed this life at his home on Eleventh Avenue February 2nd, aged 50 years, 2 months and 10 days. In 1909 he was married to Miss Agnes Horak, of Marshalltown, Ia., who with his aged father, G.P. Penfield, of this city, his three brothers, W.E., of Little Falls, Minn., C.L., of Harvey, Ill., and H.R., of Los Angeles, Calif., and two stepsisters, Miss Eliza J. Davis of Grinnell, and Mrs. Annie Palmer, of Salem, Oregon, survive to mourn the absence of one whose cheerful disposition has added much to the pleasure of their lives.

Mr. Penfield was educated in the public schools of this city, and has spent the greater portion of his life among the scenes of his childhood. His rare sense of humor made him a pleasing conversationalist, and being blessed with a genial temperment, it is but natural that the list of those who called him friend is larger than that of many. In late years his devotion to his aged father was beautiful to behold. He was never too busy nor too weary to make his daily call to see that the one whose hand and council had guided him in childhood, should lack nothing of the thoughtfulness and care that can lighten the burden of years, and make the life that slopes toward the other shore bright with the golden rays of the setting sun. Many will miss him but none will feel his absence as will the one, who by precept and example sought to guide his young life in paths of safety.

The funeral was held on Wednesday afternoon from the M.E. church conducted by Rev. J.M. Brown. The Masons had charge of the services at the grave. The Spaulding factory closed down during the afternoon in honor of a faithful employee. The pallbearers were Ralph Rutherford, C.B. Kurtz, Harry Dean, D.H Snook, Roy Towne, and George L. Brown.
