CLINTON CENTENNIAL CHILD

In the death of Clint C. Child, Grinnell loses one of its bright and active young men,--a man who had given an achievement of great success in the business world. The telegrams received by A.W. Child Friday announcing his death were followed by another stating that death was due to hemorrhages induced by a severe attack of influenza, and announcing that Mrs. Child would leave Portland, Ore., Saturday, accompanying the body to Grinnell for burial.

Mr. Child would have been 38 years of age on the fourth of July and leaves a wife and daughter. He was manager of the Monarch and Lester W. David Lumber Companies at Portland.

Clinton Centennial Child, son of Mr. Aldace W. Child, was born in Grinnell July 4th, 1876. He received his education in the public schools of Grinnell and Iowa College and in the Eastern College of Business at Poughkeepsie, N.Y.

Returning from the East in 1896 he was associated with his uncle, A.L. Child, for several years as a photographer. Afterwards he engaged in the lumber business, at New Sharon, and later in Minnesota, until 1902, when he entered the employ of the Monarch Lumber Co. and removed to Blaine, Washington.

His pleasing personality, integrity and business ability were soon recognized by his employers and his advancement was rapid. At the time of his death, he was manager of the Lester W. David, and Monarch Lumber Companies, of Portland, Ore., holding a considerable interest in each concern. A recent issue of a western lumber journal recognized him as one of the keenest and best posted lumbermen on the Pacific Coast, and complimented his managerial ability in the highest terms.

All who knew him held him in high regard. In Grinnell he was known as a quiet, modest boy, growing into an upright and honorable manhood. His death is a distinct loss to the better forces of society.

He was united in marriage with Anna Mrowzinsky, in Seattle, on July 6th, 1908. To this union a daughter Alice, was born July 12th, 1910. Increased business activities aggravated a severe attack of rheumatism and influenza and resulted in his death May 1st, 1914.

The funeral will be held at the residence of A.W. Child, Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock. Rev. P.F. Marston, of the Congregational church will have charge of the services. Mr. A.W. Child went to Omaha yesterday to meet the funeral party which is expected to reach Grinnell on the one-thirty train today.
