Thirty-seven years ago this March, Mr. Bruce and his family came to Iowa and settled on a farm three miles south of Grinnell and with the exception of the past year and a half, spent at the Payne home in Marshalltown, he has lived in the same community.

On June 2, 1880, he was united in marriage with Mary Etta Purcell, who passed away two years ago. Those who are left to survive him are nine children: Mrs. S.M. Payne and Mrs. A.C. Reiss of Marshalltown; Ira M. of Colfax; Mrs. A.D. Meiller of Madison, Wisconsin; Mrs. R.J. Houvenagle of Grinnell; and Walter, Earl, Glen and Mrs. Maurice Hursberger of Des Moines.
