SERVICES FOR MRS. T.J. NOLL HELD TODAY

Was One of Oldest Living Graduates of Grinnell College.

The first break in a singularly happy and united family came when the finger of death touched Mrs. T.J. Noll at her home in Des Moines Monday night. Mrs. Noll had not been sick and her death came instantaneously. She was 85 years old.

For the past year or so Judge and Mrs. Noll have been making their home in Des Moines, where Judge Noll was occupied with his duties as assistant adjutant of the Iowa Department of the G.A.R., of which he is also a Past Commander. Nevertheless their friends have always thought of them as a part of Grinnell, where they made their home for many years and reared their four children. They own their home here and it had been hoped that they would return when his period of service in Des Moines had expired.

Judge Noll, now 94 years old, has played a prominent part in the life of Grinnell for many years. He has always been active in G.A.R. circles and served for several years as judge of the Superior Court. Mrs. Noll has ever been a sweet and lovely influence in her home.

She was born Sarah Stuart in Strafford, Vermont, and received her education in Grinnell, then Iowa College, receiving her diploma with the class of 1874. She had been one of the oldest living graduates of the college.

She is survived by her husband, two sons, Ashley, of Aberdeen, Wash., and Warren, of Gayville, S.D., and two daughters, Mrs. Grace Emma Smith and Miss Amy Noll, both of Des Moines. All the children either graduated from or attended Grinnell College.

Funeral services were held this afternoon from the Smith Funeral Home conducted by Rev. W.J. Stewart, who was assisted by Professor J.D. Stoops. Mrs. Mabel Blair Macy was at the organ and Mrs. Margery Bouma sang. Pall bearers were Carl E. Child, Professor J.W. Gannaway, Dr. P.E. Somers, J.G. Shifflett, Dr. L.G. Lemley and W.J. Rusk. Burial was in Hazelwood cemetery.
