The Grinnell Herald (Grinnell, Iowa) Feb. 21, 1908

J.H. STEWART

James Henry Stewart, who died of pneumonia at his home in southeast Grinnell on Saturday, was born in Allen county, Ohio, May 12, 1835. On Oct. 7, 1858, he was married to Chloe Sparks. To them were born four children, J.K. Stewart of Killduff, Mrs. C.P. Ramsey of Newton, J.E. and W.F. Stewart of this city.

He enlisted in Co. E of the 4th Iowa infantry in 1861 from this city and was discharged in August, 1865, at Davenport. He had a splendid record as a brave soldier during the war. Gordon Granger Post G.A.R., attended his funeral, which was held at the residence yesterday afternoon at two o'clock, conducted by the Rev. Elias Handy.

The deceased always bore the reputation of an honest and, so long as he was able, a hard working man. To the bereaved family the Herald extends its sympathy.
