EDITH SWANEY FOSTER
Edith Swaney Foster was born near Kellogg, Iowa, September 12, 1889, and died March 8, 1912, aged 22 years, 5 months and 26 days. Early in life she united with the Methodist church and retained her membership till death.
Most of her short life was spent in Grinnell. On April 10, 1910, she was married to Ray Foster, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Ben Foster, and they established their home on a farm near Newburg. Three weeks ago, suffering from heart trouble, she was brought to the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. A.F. Swaney, but the disease could not be checked and the end came quickly.
Mrs. Foster was the second daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Swaney. For more than ten years she attended the public schools of the city. She was well known and all who knew her loved her for her many womanly graces.
The funeral was held on Sunday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock from the Swaney home on West street. Rev. Elias Handy conducted the services, and spoke comfortingly to those who mourned their heavy loss. The pallbearers were Will Gardner, Hubert Jacobs, W.J. Neely, Austin Legg, Elmer Stickle and Harry James. Many floral tributes from the neighbors around Newburg testified to their esteem and sincere sorrow. Interment was in Hazelwood.
This is the first death in either family. The mourners have the sincere sympathy of a wide circle of friends.
