GENEVA ROSE TINKLE

Geneva Rose Tinkle, 97, of Malcom died May 26, 2000 at St. Francis Manor in Grinnell.

Her funeral was May 30 at Watts Funeral Home in Montezuma. Pastor Carol Wehr of United Methodist Church in Malcom presided.

"The Old Rugged Cross," "Amazing Grace" and "How Great Thou Art" were musical selections by soloist Rhonda Minner and organist Kathleen Ramsey.

Roy Story, Jim Ward, Steve Tinkle, Billy Tinkle, Larry Tinkle and Rusty Lindenman were casket bearers. Honorary casket bearer was Geneva Heishman.

Mrs. Tinkle was buried in Ivy Hill Cemetery in Malcom.

She was born April 14, 1903 in Brooklyn to William N. and Olive E. (York) Meldrem. She attended school in Poweshiek County and on Aug. 30, 1921 married Alfred Tinkle in Montezuma. The couple had three daughters and three sons.

The family lived near Brooklyn before moving to Wisconsin for six years. They moved back to Iowa and lived near Brooklyn, Hartwick and Barnes City before moving to Malcom.

Mrs. Tinkle was a member of the Methodist Church and belonged to several groups, including the Lend-A-Hand and Over 50 clubs. She loved the outdoors and camping and enjoyed time with her family and grandchildren. One of her hobbies was crocheting.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Alfred on June 4, 1972; two sons-in-law, Fred Story and Gene Lindenman; a daughter-in-law, Florence Tinkle; a grandson, David Ward; a sister, Edna McCammant and six brothers, Lloyd, Cliff, Ervie, Eldon, Clarence and Roy Meldrem.

Mrs. Tinkle is survived by her children and their families, Betty Story of Malcom, Bill and Fran Tinkle of Grinnell, Bonnie and Lawrence Ward and Vernon and Luella Tinkle, both couples of Memphis, Mo.; Verlan and Iva Tinkle of Malcom and Rose Lindenman of Barnes City; 29 grandchildren; 60 great-grandchildren; 19 great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be directed to St. Francis Manor.
