LAST RITES SAID FOR DUTCH CONGER
Funeral services were held at 3:30 p.m. Friday, July 10, at the Smith Funeral Home for Les (Dutch) Conger, 66, of 816-1/2 4th Ave. who died of apparent natural causes at his apartment in downtown Grinnell Tuesday.
The Rev. Ralph Beebe of the Mayflower Home officiated. Organist was Mrs. Leonard Pearce.
Pallbearers were Henry Alter, Wes Ahrens, Harold Heinle, Dan Hunter, Bill Peters and Earl Trease.
Burial was made in West Liberty cemetery east of Searsboro.
The son of Aaron and Nettie Miller Conger, Mr. Conger was born near Hedrick, Iowa, on Oct. 1, 1903. He came to Grinnell with his family at an early age and continued to make Grinnell his home.
Mr. Conger was employed with the M. and St. L. Railroad for 20 years as a fireman, working at the Grinnell and Marshalltown roundhouses. He also worked at the Maytag plant in Newton for seven years as well as for the fertilizer and seed plants in Grinnell until he was forced to retire four years ago due to his health.
Mr. Conger is survived by a number of nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were three brothers and four sisters--Lester Conger, Ellsworth Conger, Vernon Miller, Ollie Conger, Opal Conger, Mrs. Bessie McGrew and Mrs. Ola Grovenburg, who died Nov. 29, 1969.
