RITES HELD FOR MR. CRISWELL

Freeman Criswell, 65, of rural Montezuma died Monday, Nov. 29.

Funeral services were conducted at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the Steffy Funeral Home in Montezuma, with the Rev. John Darlington officiating. Masonic rites were conducted by Lafayette Lodge No. 52 of Montezuma. Music was provided by Mr. and Mrs. Delmar Sharp, vocalists, and Alice Underwood, organist.

Pallbearers were Carl Carter, Bill Vogt Sr., Albert Schinckel, Melvin Koehn, Albert Facile and Dean McClelland. Burial was at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Montezuma.

The son of John and Clora Elam Criswell, he was born Nov. 23, 1917, near Lynnville. He attended rural school in Jasper County, later graduating from Grinnell High School.

On June 22, 1941, he was married to Mildred L. Keller at Kirksville, Mo. The couple had three children. Mr. and Mrs. Criswell had farmed northeast of Montezuma since 1944.

He is survived by his wife; his children, Gary Criswell of Montezuma, Kim Criswell of Belle Plaine and Patty Schipani of Wood Ridge, N.J.; five grandchildren; two brothers, Sterlie Criswell of Harriman, Tenn., and Kenneth Criswell of Monticello, Ky.; and one sister, Dixie Orr of Chicago.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Maxine Brown.
