GERALDINE ANN SLEBISKA

Geraldine Ann Slebiska, 77, of Grinnell died Friday, May 2, at Grinnell Regional Medical Center.

A graveside service for Geraldine Slebiska will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, May 6, at Hazelwood Cemetery in Grinnell. There will be no visitation.

She was born on Jan. 6, 1926, in Ellsworth to Jerome and Hazel Johnson Slebiska. She was raised and attended public schools in Ellsworth, Eldora and Tama. Following her graduation from Tama High School, she attended what was then Des Moines Junior College for four years.

She began her career at the Maytag Corp. in Newton as an administrative assistant, and worked there for 42 years before retiring in 1989.

She was dedicated to various organizations throughout the community. She was active in the American Legion Auxiliary, serving as president, secretary and treasurer for several years. She was also very involved in the V.F.W. and the Grinnell United Methodist Church, and had been a member of the Goodfellows since 1947, and had long directed that groups efforts to feed the less fortunate during the holidays.

She was an avid bowler and was a member of the Poweshiek County Bowling Association, where she served as league secretary and association secretary.

She spent free time in her garden, enjoying her flowers, and held a close companionship with her pets.

She is survived by two sisters, Irma Latham and Darlene Roush, both of Grinnell; two brothers, Jim Slebiska of Des Moines and Jerome Slebiska of Harbor Spring, Mich.; and their families.
