JOHN WILLIAM AHRENS

John William Ahrens, son of John and Christina Ahrens was born in Poweshiek County March 10, 1880, where he lived until he was a young man. There he was confirmed in a German Lutheran church.

His father bought a farm in Jasper County five miles northwest of Grinnell where he lived until he met Mary Blanche Badger. They were united in marriage in 1902. To this marriage were born ten children.

He was preceded in death by his wife on September 5, 1953, and sister, Katie Copeland, and brother, Frank Ahrens. He is survived by a sister Helen Stevens of Oskaloosa and brother Henry Ahrens of Grinnell. Other survivors include 23 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren.

His children are: Mrs. Elgin Fanton, Gilman; Mrs. Katherine Cummings, Grinnell; Mrs. Irvin Muckler, Grinnell; John Ahrens, Searsboro; Mrs. Laird Wray, Grinnell; Claude Ahrens, Grinnell; Carl Ahrens, Grinnell; Mrs. Jo Dunton, Grinnell; Mrs. John Nolan, Niles, Michigan; Don Ahrens, Denison, Texas.

He had gone to Denison, Texas, for a visit with his son, Don and family where he quietly passed away on March 15, 1957.

He leaves to mourn not only his family, but hosts of friends and other relatives.
