MRS. CUMMINGS RITES HELD

Katherine J. Cummings, 81, of Grinnell died Thursday, Feb. 6, at St. Francis Manor.

Funeral services were conducted at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Raymond Lott of the Grinnell United Methodist Church officiating. Organist was Alice Renaud, and pallbearers were Al, Bill, Mike D. and Paul Ahrens; Duane and Lyle Muckler; and Larry Wray. Burial was in Hazelwood Cemetery.

Memorials in Mrs. Cummings' name may be made to St. Francis Manor.

The daughter of John W. and Mary Badger Ahrens, she was born on April 10, 1904, in Brookfield, Mo. She lived in Missouri and South Dakota, then came to the Grinnell-Newburg area where she attended school. She graduated from Newburg High School in 1922.

Since 1953, she had lived in Grinnell where she cared for several families in her home. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary.

Survivors include two step-children, Ella Mae Griffith of Grinnell and Marvin Cummings of Malcom; three sisters, Elizabeth Fanton of Gilman, Esther Wray of Grinnell and Wilma Nolan of Sylvania, Ohio; and three brothers Claude, Carl and Donald Ahrens, all of Grinnell.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, John Ahrens; and two sisters, Josie Dunton and Mary Muckler.
