JESSIE MAE DUNHAM

Jessie Mae Dunham was born Sept. 9, 1884, at the family farm southeast of Grinnell, the youngest of six children of Jacob and Frances Roseman Wisecarver. She lived most of her life in Grinnell.

On Jan. 21, 1909, at the parsonage of the Methodist church, she was united in marriage with Willis C. Dunham. One daughter, Betty, was born to this union on Oct. 1, 1922. They spent the early years of married life in Belle Plaine and Marshalltown, coming to Grinnell in 1929 to make their home.

Mrs. Dunham was employed at the Community hospital in Grinnell for 27 years. Since the death of her husband, Sept. 5, 1953, she had made her home with her daughter and family at 219 Fifth Ave. She had been bedfast for the past two years.

She was a member of the DUV and the Methodist church.

Surviving are her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Gene Ratcliff, and three grandchildren, Michael Lee, Kathy Sue and Tyaria Ratcliff. A brother, George Wisecarver of Des Moines, also survives.

Preceding her in death were her parents; two brothers, William and Edward Wisecarver; and one sister, Mrs. Nettie Coop.

Services for Mrs. Dunham were held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, May 26, at the Smith Funeral Home with Dr. G.S. Bruland, pastor of the Methodist church, officiating. Flower bearers were Mrs. Floy Dempster, Mrs. Ed Green and Mrs. Jennie See.

Pallbearers were Charles Dunham, Mac Clements, Alfred Wisecarver, Gene Wisecarver, Raymond Wisecarver and Roy Wisecarver. Mrs. Kathleen Heffner was organist and Mrs. Alberta Miller was vocalist.

Interment was in Hazelwood cemetery.
