ARTHUR SHELDON COOP

Arthur Sheldon Coop, longtime resident of Grinnell, passed away on Thursday, Sept. 18, at the Community hospital, after an illness of short duration.

Mr. Coop was born at Keswick, Oct. 22, 1872, and was a son of Reuben Jefferson Coop and Emmeline Decker Coop. After a short time his parents moved to Fairfield, where they lived until 1881, in which year they moved and settled on a farm northeast of Grinnell.

In his boyhood he attended rural schools, being a one-time pupil of the late Mrs. A.E. Fraser and Miss Mae Judkins. Mr. Coop worked for many farmers in the Grinnell vicinity.

On February 12, 1896, Mr. Coop was united in marriage with Miss Anna Belle McLain of Pleasant township by Rev. Bevans, pastor of the Methodist church.

They lived on various farms near Grinnell until three years ago when they moved to Grinnell, residing at 1426 Reed St.

During this long period of residence in and around Grinnell, he became known as a conscientious workman, honest in all his dealings and at times performing work of a most arduous nature. He was a kind husband and loving father, always wanting to do for others and highly esteemed by those who knew him best.

He was a worthy friend, ever willing to extend a helping hand. Mr. Coop was a man who loved life and always accepted the joys and sorrows that came into his life with an inspiring confidence. He will be missed from the daily routine by those with whom he came in contact.

He was the father of one daughter, Mrs. Bert Wells of near Grinnell.

Wells of Grinnell; three great grandchildren, Paulette Wells, Carlotta Wells of Montezuma and Reginald Eugene Wells of Grinnell, who were more than precious to him.
