ANNA BELLE COOP

Mrs. Anna Belle Coop, 86, widow of Arthur S. Coop, died suddenly Monday afternoon, July 3rd, shortly after arrival at a local hospital.

Funeral services were held Thursday, July 6th from the Smith Funeral Home with the Rev. C.E. Kingsley, pastor of the First Baptist church, officiating. Vocal music was provided by Miss Judy St. Clair, accompanied by Mrs. Kathleen Heffner at the organ.

Pallbearers were Harold Bryan, Elmer Burnson, Albert Neighbors, Albert Bryan, Ralph Wells, and John Barker. Interment was in Hazelwood cemetery.

She was born May 1st, 1876 in County Down, Ireland, the daughter of Samuel and Mary Jackson McLain. She came to this country with her parents in 1884 and the family settled in the Pleasant township neighborhood where she received her education.

Later, on Feb. 12th, 1896, at the family home, she was united in marriage with Arthur Sheldon Coop by the Rev. Bevans. One daughter was born to this union, Mrs. Bert (Verna) Wells of Rte. 2, Grinnell.

Mrs. Coop made her home with her daughter and husband after the passing of her husband in 1952, until Nov. 1959, when she went to the home of L.O. Wilson in Grinnell.

In addition to her daughter, Mrs. Coop is survived by two grandsons, Harold and wife of Montezuma, Arthur and wife of Grinnell; six great grandchildren, Paulette, Carlotta and Harold Jr., Montezuma, and Reginald, Blaine and Brent of Grinnell, one sister, Mrs. Agnes Swanson of Kirkwood, Ill.; one brother, John McLain of Mohall, N.D.; and several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Coop was preceded in death by her husband, parents, nine brothers and sisters.

She lived in Poweshiek county most of her life and was a member of the United Presbyterian church.
