AUGUST PLIKUHN SERVICES TODAY

August O. Plikuhn, 80, of 915 Spring St., Grinnell, died suddenly at his home Monday afternoon.

The son of Mr. and Mrs. August Plikuhn, he was born on July 25, 1890, in Chicago. He was a carpenter and home contractor in Chicago until 1932, when he moved to a farm near Ladysmith, Wisc.

He was married to Alma Schultz, and the couple had six children: Mrs. Valera Thoreson, Herman Plikuhn, Mrs. Ruth Slimp, Mrs. Lorraine Vykowski and Mrs. Helen Michalic, all of Chicago, and August Plikuhn of Gary, Ind. His wife Alma preceded him in death.

On July 12, 1944, he was married to Edith Figland in Chicago. The couple had five children, four of whom survive: Mrs. Fred (Joanne) Danoviski of Cedar Rapids, Mrs. Herb (Louise) Evans of New York City, and Mrs. Dennis (Diane) Rook and Mrs. Steven (Bonnie) Thompson, both of Grinnell.

Mr. Plikuhn was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith, and had made his home in Grinnell since 1959.

He is survived by his wife Edith, his 10 children, 22 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Also surviving are two sisters and one brother: Mrs. Ida Norris, Mrs. Martha Hammel and Ed Plihuhn, all of Chicago. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Jeanne, who died in infancy, as well as two sisters, Mrs. Minnie Rowley and Mrs. Emma Geisek, and one grandson.

Funeral services for Mr. Plikuhn were held this afternoon (Thursday) at the Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Marcus E. Reitz, pastor of St. John's Lutheran Church, officiating. Organist was Mrs. Marvin Nothnagel, and pallbearers were Clarence Cogley, A. Laverne Latcham, John Lang, Leonard Latcham, Raymond Larsen and Chet Figland Jr.

Burial was in Hazelwood Cemetery.
