HIT-AND-RUN IS FATAL TO GRIMMER

A former Grinnell resident was dead on arrival at Mercy Hospital in Davenport early Wednesday after a hit-and-run accident at Seventh and Brady there.

Killed was William Paul Grimmer, 24, the son of a former Grinnell physician, Dr. Bill Grimmer.

Davenport police said investigation of the accident is continuing. As of Wednesday noon, no one had been taken into custody in connection with the hit-and-run death.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Davenport, with burial at Davenport Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call after 2 p.m. today at the Runge Mortuary in Davenport.

William Grimmer was born Nov. 20, 1952, in San Antonio, Tex. He attended the University of Iowa and Augustana College prior to his service in the U.S. Navy. While at the University of Iowa, he held honors on the debate team. He was graduated with honors last month from St. Ambrose College in Davenport.

Survivors include his father, Dr. Bill Grimmer of Davenport; his mother, Gloria Grimmer, also of Davenport; a sister, the Rev. Amanda Grimmer (Mrs. Michael Tavella) of Hurst, Tex.; two brothers, Daniel Grimmer of Des Moines and Matthew Grimmer of Davenport; his maternal grandmother, Mrs. Amanda Olson of Moline, Ill.; and his paternal grandfather, William Grimmer of Winfield, Ia.

The Grimmer family lived in Grinnell in the 1950s and '60s, and Dr. Grimmer served on the local school board.
