WENDALL STATE

Wendall F. State, 69, a former resident of Grinnell, died following a lengthy illness Jan. 13 at his Oceanside, Calif. home.

Following cremation, his ashes were scattered at sea off the coast of southern California. A private family memorial was held at Beautiful Saviour Lutheran Church in Carlsbad, Calif.

The son of Floyd and Vena Ritter State, he was born Sept. 13, 1921, in Galt, Iowa. He entered the U.S. Marine Corps in 1941 and served in World War II and the Korean conflict. He retired from the Marine Corps in 1968 and was self-employed in home maintenance.

Survivng are his wife of 43 years, Mildred Irene; two daughters, Carolyn Starke of Monterey Park, Calif., and Susan Lorenzen of Elk Grove, Calif.; two sisters, Carolyn Beason of Oskaloosa and Dorothy Murphy of Jefferson City; and two brothers, George of Oceanside, Calif., and Douglas of Kearney, Neb.
