MR. LONGLEY DIES IN FLORIDA

Edward Lyman Longley of 2300 23rd Ave. West, Bradenton, Fla., died Tuesday, April 4 at the Manatee Memorial Hospital.

He was born in Grinnell, Jan. 6, 1926 and attended Grinnell schools, graduating from Grinnell High School in 1943.

Longley served in the Navy during World War II. Later he entered the insurance business as an adjuster for the Iowa Mutual Tornado Insurance Company of Des Moines, continuing with them until 1962. In 1963 he moved to Florida to make his home.

He leaves his widow, Elaine Cornish Longley; a daughter, Lynn M. at home; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph L. Longley of Sarasota, Fla.; a sister, Mrs. Cliff O'Brien of Newton; a brother, Charles E. Longley of Orlando, Fla.; and an aunt, Mrs. Louise Peek Cole of Daytona Beach, Fla. He was preceded in death by his mother, Mrs. Julia Peek Longley in January of 1947.

Private services were held at Toale Brothers Bradenton Chapel West at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 6, with interment in the family plot in Oakridge Cemetery at Arcadia, Fla.

A memorial has been established for Mr. Longley at the Florida Sheriffs-Boys Ranch at Boys Ranch, Fla. 32060.

PRESENT FLAG

The flag that was draped on the casket of Edward Lyman Longley was presented to Walter A. Rixen, principal of Grinnell High School, at 3 p.m. Friday, June 2.

Longley was born in Grinnell in 1926, and was a 1943 graduate of Grinnell High School. He moved to Florida in 1963. He died on April 4 of this year, leaving a request that the flag on his casket be donated to the high school.

The flag was give to Ralph Longley at the cemetery. He presented the flag to Rixen.
