HAROLD L. JONES

Harold L. Jones, 76, of Grinnell died of a respiratory ailmant Saturday, Feb. 17, at Veterans Medical Center in Des Moines.

Funeral services were conducted Thursday at the Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Ken Wallace, pastor of the Newburg-Chester Congregational Church, officiating. Casket bearers were Bob Dale, Stephan Jones, Chuck McAtee, Dean McClelland, Marvin Steenhoek and Vic White.

Burial was in Hazelwood Cemetery.

He was born June 8, 1924, in Grinnell to Harold W. and Dorothy Bicknell Jones. He was a 1941 graduate of Grinnell High School.

Mr. Jones served with the U.S. Navy during World War II in North Africa, Europe and the South Pacific.

He was married to Doris J. Inman May 5, 1946, in Des Moines. They lived in Grinnell where he worked as a carpenter with his father-in-law, Harlan Inman. In 1952, he began his career with the Maytag Corporation in Newton. He retired as manager of Plant No. 2.

Mr. Jones was a member of the American Legion and the Grinnell Elks Lodge.

He is survived by one son, Stephan of Watertown, Minn.; three daughters, Karla Mayhew of Minnetonka, Minn., and Lynda and Katherine Jones, both of Grinnell; and two granddaughters.

He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents and one brother, Robert Scott Jones.
