DARL D. SHADDEN

Darl D. Shadden, 86, of Tama, a native of Poweshiek County, died of respiratory and heart ailments Saturday, Jan. 31, at Grinnell Regional Medical Center.

Funeral services were conducted Wednesday at Mason-Hand Funeral Chapel of Tama-Toledo, with the Rev. Ron Arends officiating. Burial was in Maple Grove Cemetery, rural Tama.

He was the son of David and Vertie Wright Shadden and was born Dec. 15, 1911, in Sheridan Township, Poweshiek County. He attended rural schools.

On Feb. 15, 1941, he was married to Marie Depew of Tama. The couple lived on a farm in Columbia Township, Tama County, for 55 years. He retired from farming in 1978. The couple had lived in Tama since May 1996.

Mr. Shadden was a member of the Farm Bureau and served as a director of the Columbia No. 8 School District.

Surviving are his wife; two sons, Roger D. of Tama and LaVerne D. of Springville; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two brothers, Verlyn of Tama and Robert of Zapata, Texas; and two sisters, Geneva Backen of Tama and Betty Depew of Council Bluffs.

He was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters, Faye, Ferne and Lenora.
