LENORA SHOPE SERVICES TODAY

Lenora A. Shope, 68, of 820 Park St., Grinnell, died Friday morning at Grinnell General Hospital.

Funeral services for Mrs. Shope are scheduled for 1:30 p.m. today at the Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Damon R. Reese, pastor of the Calvary Baptist Church, officiating. Organist will be Julia Pearce, and vocalists will be Mr. and Mrs. Gil Christopher. Pallbearers will be Leroy Calvin, Don Sears, Larry Sears, Ray Spriggs, Howard Thompson, and Don Turner.

Burial will be at the Sheridan Township Cemetery northeast of Grinnell. Should friends desire, memorials in Mrs. Shope's name may be made to the Grinnell Calvary Baptist Church building fund.

The daughter of David and Vertie Wright Shadden, she was born Aug. 24, 1910, at Unionville, Mo. She was graduated from Grinnell High School in 1929. She was married to Hubert I. Shope, and the couple had three children.

Following their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Shope operated a grocery store in Malcom before moving to the Sheridan community to operate the Shope & Graff General Store, otherwise known as the Sheridan Store, and the Shope Trucking Service. Following her husband's death in 1959, she continued to make her home in the Sheridan community before moving to Grinnell in 1968.

Mrs. Shope was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church and had served the church as a Sunday school teacher.

Survivors include her three children, Mrs. Keith (Olive) Weitzell of Tama, Mrs. Charles (Billie) Sumner of Grinnell, and James Shope of Toledo; 12 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; her mother, Mrs. Vertie Shaddon of Tama; three brothers, Darl, Verlyn and Robert Shaddon, all of Tama; and three sisters, Mrs. Geneva Backen of Tama, Mrs. Jerry (Faye) Fair of Grinnell, and Mrs. Marvin (Betty) Depew of Council Bluffs. She was preceded in death by her father, her husband, two grandchildren, and one sister, Fern Shaddon.
