JOHN H. CRAIG RITES ARE HELD

John H. Craig, 69, of Oakland Acres died Saturday, Sept. 12, at Grinnell General Hospital.

Funeral services were conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Raymond Lott, pastor of the Grinnell United Methodist Church, officiating. Organist was Kathleen Heffner.

Pallbearers were Dale Clark, Ken Ellenson, Duane Loftin, Bryce Macy, Norman Snider and Max Thompson. Honorary bearers were Leslie Blue, Mike Johnson, John Kaldenberg, Joe Raffety, Cliff Thompson and Jim Webb. Burial was in Hazelwood Cemetery.

He was the son of James and Minnie Agnes Smyth Craig and was born on Nov. 24, 1917, in Grinnell. He graduated from Grinnell High School in 1937 and later attended Grinnell College.

On Oct. 5, 1941, he was married to Vivian G. Judy at Lancaster, Mo. During World War II he served with the U.S. Navy. Following the war he returned to Grinnell where he was associated with Preston's Clothing Store and for many years traveled throughout the Midwest as a salesman of men's wear. He and his wife moved from Grinnell to Oakland Acres in 1968. He had been working as a groundsman for Oakland Acres Golf Course.

Surviving are his wife, Vivian; two sons, John of Schofield, Wis., and Tim of Elgin, Ill.; two daughters, Judy Van Wechel of Vancouver, Wash., and Martha Devine of Colorado Springs, Colo.; 10 grandchildren; and two sisters, Winnifred Williams of Newton and Anna Ethel May of Phoenix, Ariz. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Sarah Clary.
