DOROTHY ENGELBARTS

Dorothy Genevieve Engelbarts, 86, of Malcom died on Wednesday, June 27, 2007, at the Grinnell Regional Medical Center.

Funeral services for Dorothy Engelbarts were held at 10 a.m. Monday, July 2, at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell with Pastor George Salnave officiating. Pallbearers included Brandon Braaskma; Anthony, Dennis and Roger Engelbarts; Bob Martin; Jim Sagar; and Scott and Verl Shook. Honorary bearers included Bill Anderson and Freddie and Jerry Minear. Burial was in Ivy Hill Cemetery in Malcom.

Born Sept. 11, 1920, in rural Livonia, Mo., she was the daughter of Fred and Martha Carpenter Minear. The family moved to Newburg and she attended country schools near the family home. She worked for various local families as a housekeeper and caretaker.

On June 28, 1943, she married Earl Carl Engelbarts in Grinnell. They made their life together on the family farm in Malcom. The couple had six children.

She loved her family and their close ties. She enjoyed attending school functions of her children and grandchildren. She loved the outdoors and always kept a vegetable garden, as well as raising flowers and watching birds; roses and cardinals were among her favorites. She kept busy cooking for her family, listening to music and doing needlework.

She is survived by her husband; and their children, Bonita Martin of Sioux Falls, S.D.; Barbara Shook of Malcom, Roger Engelbarts of Malcom and Dennis Engelbarts of Malcom; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Jettie Anderson; three brothers, Guy, Lloyd and Rex Minear; and two sons, Carl and Gene.
