DONALD E. HULL, 81

Donald E. Hull, 81, of Grinnell died Sunday, Dec. 29, at his home.

His funeral service was Thursday, Jan. 2, at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell with the Rev. John Epperson, pastor of the Grinnell Christian Church, officiating. Burial was at the Hazelwood Cemetery, Grinnell.

Casket bearers were Jeremy Buhr, Nathan Andrews, Chris Sheets, Chad Hull, Mark Ranfeld and Michael Hull.

Honorary bearers were Glenn Ratcliff, Laverne Morrison, Willie Morrison, Landon Hull, Myron White, Max Stanley, Jim Foster, Dale Larson, Marv Honold and Marv Reding.

Donald was born Sept. 7, 1921, near Taintor to Harold L. and Marie A. Palmer Hull. He was raised on the family farm near Taintor and later moved to the Grinnell area. He graduated from Grinnell High School in 1939. During World War II, he served with the U.S. Army in Iceland. He was married to Darlene Morrison Oct. 22, 1945, at Grinnell. The couple farmed near Grinnell, and he was also a rural mail carrier in the Grinnell area. He retired in 1985. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Grinnell, the Rural Mail Carriers Association, the V.F.W. and the Farm Bureau.

He is survived by his wife, Darlene Hull, of Grinnell; one daughter, Donna Ratcliff of Newton; and two sons, Darryl Hull of Grinnell and Dean Hull of Meisau, Germany; six grandchildren; three step grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two sons, Dennis and Dale Hull, and one sister, Melba I. Mitchell.

Memorials may be directed to the First Baptist Church or to the Poweshiek County Home Health Service.
