MR. WALTER SERVICES HELD

Marvin "Bill" Walter, 74, of 1504 Prairie St., Grinnell, died Monday morning at Grinnell General Hospital.

Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Hugh A. Shiveley, pastor of the First Baptist Church, officiating. Organist was Kathleen Heffner. Pallbearers were Lyman G. Case, Marlyn Olson, LaVerne Reavis, Clarence Doud, Ralph Snider, and Arnold Hagen. Honorary pallbearers were Virgil L. Case, Merton Johnson, Charles P. Kaisand, Ray G. Myers, Cliff Streck, and Fred E. Taylor.

Burial was at Hazelwood Cemetery.

He was born May 1, 1903, near Victor. He was graduated from Victor High School in 1921, and later attended Iowa State University.

Mr. Walter was married to Lona Ballard on June 10, 1926. They lived in Victor where Mr. Walter was employed at the Victor Creamery. In 1931, they moved to Grinnell, where they lived since.

Mr. Walter worked for Swift and Company and C.H. Dimit Skelly Station before becoming associated with the U.S. Post Office. He retired from the post office in 1968, after which he worked for Bates Flowers and the Central Market.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church, the Knights of Pythias, and the Grinnell Volunteer Fire Department. He also served as fire chief. Mr. and Mrs. Walter had celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary last year.

Survivors include his wife; his children, Lyman L. Walter of Wheaton, Ill., and Mrs. James (Anita L.) Conway of Alexandria, Va.; seven grandchildren; and one sister, Mrs. Charles (Marjorie) Reeves of Des Moines. He was preceded in death by his parents.
