GAEL BURK

Gael Burk, son of John E. and Myrtle Burk, was born October 27, 1906, at Grinnell, Iowa. With the exception of a period of military service, he spent his entire life in the community of his birth.

He attended the Grinnell schools, graduating in 1924, and during his life he was a member of the Grinnell Honor G, the American Legion, 40 & 8 Voiture, and for 30 years a member of the Elks.

When a young man, Gael Burk united with the former Grinnell First Christian church, and later attended the First Baptist church.

On November 15, 1934, he was united in marriage to Clarissa Wilson, and they have made their home in Grinnell.

Gael Burk served his country during World War II as a member of the Army Anti Air-Craft. In the service, and in his home community, he loved life and maintained a deep respect for both human and natural life. He enjoyed serving his fellowmen, and as a cook and caterer, he often realized his ambition as he provided for others, young and old.

He remained active in life until about three months ago. Although he gave a spirit of happiness and patience, he found it necessary to enter Veterans hospital in Des Moines, Feb. 27. He passed away March 8, 1958, past 51 years of age.

He is survived by his companion of the home, two aunts, several cousins, five nieces, and one nephew, all of whom he loved very much.

Funeral services were held at the Smith Funeral Home on March 10th, with the Rev. C.E. Kingsley of the First Baptist church officiating. Mrs. Kathleen Heffner was organist.

Pallbearers were George Hargrave, Paul Jantzen, George Mowitt, Bill Ritter, James Scott, and David Springer, Jr. Honorary pallbearers were Robert Brown, Ross Coutts, R.S. Kinsey, Frank Mitchell, Edwin Pedersen and James Webb.

Flower bearers were Mrs. George Hargrave and Mrs. George Mowitt. Graveside services were conducted by BPOE Lodge 1266, Paul Jantzen, Exalted Ruler, and Focht-Tennant Post 53, American Legion, Jack Day, Ceremonial Officer.

Interment was at Hazelwood cemetery.
