MILDRED OTIS RITES TODAY
Mildred Louise Otis, 88, of 920 Park St., Grinnell, died suddenly Friday morning at her home.
Graveside services for Mrs. Otis will be held at 1 p.m. today at Oakwood Cemetery in Casey, Iowa, with the Rev. Glen Nicola, pastor of the Lutheran Church at Powers Lake, N.D., officiating. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery, with the Smith Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Should friends desire, memorials in Mrs. Otis's name may be established at the First United Presbyterian Church.
The daughter of Joseph C. and Rogenna Bechtel McMullin, she was born July 19, 1887, in Casey. She attended public schools in that community.
On Feb. 20, 1906, she was married to Rosewell Curtis Otis II in Casey. The couple had six children. Following their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Otis lived in Adair and Greenfield before moving to Grinnell in 1924. They moved to Council Bluffs in 1932. After Mr. Otis's death in 1941, Mrs. Otis continued to live in Council Bluffs. She returned to Grinnell in 1970 to be near her two daughters.
Mrs. Otis was a member of the First United Presbyterian Church and had been a member of the Order of Eastern Star in Casey.
She is survived by four children, Mrs. A.M. (Wilma) Bonyata and Mrs. George (Marguerite) Mart, both of Grinnell, Rosewell Curtis Otis III of Hawarden, and Mrs. Earl (Joan) Maddy of Council Bluffs; 14 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; one son, Joseph Charles Otis in 1964; one daughter, Mrs. Gene (Helen) Thomas in 1970; two grandchildren; two sisters and four brothers.
