FUNERAL FOR C.E. BONYATA IS HELD HERE
Funeral services for Charles Edward Bonyata, longtime Grinnell business man who died Monday, were held Wednesday afternoon at Smith Funeral Home with Rev. Lester Williams, pastor of Calvary Baptist church officiating.
Music was by Mrs. Lester Williams and James Severe. Pallbearers were Estel Cottrel, Kenneth Elliott, Charles Hink, Raymond Selle, Pete Staffanou and Paul Worcester with interment in Hazelwood cemetery at Grinnell.
Mr. Bonyata in business here for nearly 60 years, died Monday noon at a Grinnell hospital following a short illness. He was 79 years old.
Native of Georgia, he came to Grinnell at the age of 23 and immediately entered the barber trade, a profession he followed for 15 years before establishing Bonyata Laboratories, a chemical firm which prepared cosmetics, shampoos and lotions.
He remained active with the chemical experimental firm until last summer when failing health prompted him to retire.
Born in a small town in southern Georgia, he was married August 30, 1899 to Rachel Maynes at Grinnell. They were the parents of two children.
Mrs. Bonyata died on November 4, 1938 and on March 5, 1943 he was married to Mrs. Mary Turner.
Mr. Bonyata was a member of the Calvary Baptist church.
Surviving are his wife, Mary; a son, Alfred M. Bonyata of Grinnell; a daughter, Mrs. Harriette Powers of Chicago; six grandchildren and one great grandchild.
