DENNIS C. RITTER

Dennis C. Ritter, 71, of Clive, formerly of Grinnell, died of cancer Monday, June 23, 2003, at his home.

A burial was held Thursday, June 26, at 10:30 a.m. at Hazelwood Cemetery followed at 1:30 p.m. by a memorial service at Smith Funeral Home. Officiating were his sons Michael Ritter of Urbandale and Mark Ritter of Danbury, Conn. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Central Iowa or Christian Missions in Many Lands.

He was born Feb. 3, 1932, in Grinnell, the son of Frank and Helen Frizzell Ritter. He graduated from Grinnell High School with the class of 1950 and attended Cornell College in Mount Vernon before serving in a construction battalion (CBs) of the United States Navy from 1951 to 1955. Upon his return to Grinnell he was married to the former Sue Bailey. He was a plumbing, heating and air conditioning contractor in Grinnell from 1973 to 1990 when the family moved to rural Joliet, Mont., where they ranched from 1973 to 1990. He then was a real estate broker with Prudential Floberg Realty in Billings, Mont., from 1990 until 1998 when the family moved to Clive. In Montana he developed a deep Christian faith and in Clive entered into a fellowship with a group of non-denominational believers in Polk City. His favorite Bible verse was from Philippians 1:21 "...to live is Christ and to die is gain."

He is survived by his wife Sue; his sons and their wives; three grandchildren and one brother Richard of Eldora.
