FUNERAL SERVICES HELD TODAY FOR MRS. H.R. RITTER
Mrs. Carrie Ada Ritter, 86, Grinnell, widow of Harry R. Ritter, died Tuesday morning at Skiff Memorial hospital in Newton where she had been hospitalized since Sunday. She had been living in a Newton nursing home since May 8th and had been in failing health the last few years.
Funeral services were held this afternoon (Thursday) from the Smith Funeral Home with Dr. G.S. Bruland, pastor of the Methodist church, officiating. Organ music was provided by Mrs. Rhee Auman.
Pallbearers were Carl Child, Howard Edwards, Cliff Streck, Frank Green, Edd Phillips and Don Hudnutt. Honorary pallbearers were Ross Coutts, J.E. Alexander, Charles Hink, Dr. Royal J. Montgomery, Arlie Binegar and Howard Hyde.
Burial was in Hazelwood cemetery.
She was the daughter of Nelson and Lucetta Duckworth Rairdon and was born near Killduff in Jasper county on Nov. 5th, 1875. On Dec. 31st, 1893, she was united in marriage with Harry R. Ritter in Newton.
To this union were born seven children, six of whom survive: Mrs. Vera Rainier of Los Angeles, Calif.; Mrs. Ruth Smith of San Francisco, Calif.; Frank, Harry, and Francis (Bill) Ritter, all of Grinnell; Mrs. Ivan (Alliene) Seiberling of Los Angeles, Calif.
Mr. and Mrs. Ritter lived in Newton after their marriage and then resided in Searsboro for a time until moving to Grinnell in 1909 when Mr. Ritter established the Ritter Hdwe. Store.
Mrs. Ritter was a member of the Methodist church, the Rebekahs, Pythian Sisters, Beulah Chapter No. 47 of the Order of Eastern Star, Courtesy Club and the Sunset Club.
She is survived by her six children, 10 grandchildren, and 14 great grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Harry, on Jan. 30th, 1952; a daughter, Mrs. Hazel Clark in 1960; and one brother and one sister.
