Grinnell Man Saves a Life but Loses Own

C. A. Parmley Dies From Injuries Sustained in Car Accident on No. 6 Last Friday

C. A. (Cash) Parmley, of Grinnell, salesman, died Friday afternoon from injuries sustained when the car he was driving, turned over, pinning him beneath the wreckage. Parmley died after being taken to the hospital in Grinnell.

He was driving back to town after a call in the country and had just entered the city limits when he saw a figure start across the highway. The pedestrian, M. L. Powers, had been held up momentarily by a car from the east and was hurrying to get across before the approaching truck driven by Parmley reached the spot.

"Cash", fearing that he would hit the man on foot, apparently stepped on the brakes and the car skidded for fifty or sixty feet, hit the shoulder of the highway and turned over three or four times. The mishap occurred a little before 4:30 p.m. says the Grinnell Register.

The badly injured man was rushed to the Community hospital and a doctor summoned. But he was hurt too critically to be aided and passed away shortly after 5:00 o'clock. Internal injuries and shock were responsible for his death.

He is survived by his wife and two little daughters, Bonnie, 5, and Marilyn, 12 years-of-age; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Olin Parmley of Rock Creek township; and two brothers, Wendell and Hollis.

Funeral services were held Tuesday in Grinnell.
