JAMES LIVEZEY DIES AT 88
James Albert Livezey, 88, a native of Grinnell, died March 30 at Westview Acres Nursing Home at Leon, Iowa.
The son of Albert and Mary E. Murphy Livezey, he was born Dec. 4, 1884, on a farm south of Grinnell. He was married to Jennie Slaven April 20, 1916, and lived on his birthplace farm until 1940, at which time he moved to Montezuma and continued farming until 1965. Due to his wife's illness, he then moved to Leon to be near a daughter.
Mr. and Mrs. Livezey had nine children, two of whom died in infancy. Surviving are Robert of Olathe, Kan.; Alice Morgan of Salt Lake City, Utah; Thelma Worden of Des Moines; Leonard of Eltopia, Wash.; Walter of Littleton, Colo; Edith Overholser of Indianapolis, Ind.; and Gertrude Higdon of Leon. Also surviving are 26 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
Mr. Livezey was preceded in death by his wife Jennie April 10, 1971, and all his brothers and sisters, William P., a half brother; Gertrude Dexter; George; Eliza Boget; Aly Allen; and Lizzie Barnhart.
He was Washington Township assessor for a number of years. He also was an adjuster for the Poweshiek County Farmers Mutual Insurance Co. and served on the firm's board of directors for many years. Mr. Livezey was active in community affairs. His dehorning cuts was a familiar sight in the area.
