FUNERAL OF ALONZO HALSTEAD HELD THURS.

Alonzo Halstead, one of Grinnell's old and respected residents, died early Wednesday morning at his home on Summer street from the results of a stroke of apoplexy which he had suffered a week previous.

Funeral services were conducted by Rev. W.J. Todd from the Methodist church Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Interment was in Hazelwood cemetery.

Pall bearers were Charles Stanley, J.F. Binegar, Pete Madill, C.C. Keil, Dean Eichhorn and John Stone.

D.C. Phillips sang several hymns with sympathy and feeling. Mrs. W.J. Todd was at the piano.

Alonzo Halstead was born in Lawn Ridge, Marshall county, Illinois, June 26, 1857, and departed this life Wednesday morning, January 14, 1925 at his home, 1507 Summer street, at the age of 68 years, 6 months and 19 days.

Mr. Halstead grew to young manhood in Illinois and at the age of twenty-one he left his native home for Iowa. Driving overland he arrived at the home of his uncle near Thornburg, Iowa. It was here that he met Ida May Cooper who became his wife. To this union were born eight children, Eva L. Fisher of Martinsburg, Iowa, Pearl A. Schultz of Grinnell, Albert Leonard Halstead of Grinnell, Raymond W. and Glen H. Halstead of Des Moines, Retha Helen Carroll of Grinnell, Mildred Ellen Thomas of White Pigeon, Mich., and Gladys Ival Halstead of Grinnell. All are living except Retha Helen Carroll, who departed this life April 4, 1922.
