JOE RIDGEWAY RITES FRIDAY

William J. (Joe) Ridgeway, 69, died following a brief illness Tuesday morning at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday at the Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Philip J. Ramstad, pastor of the United Church of Christ-Congregational, officiating. Organist will be Kathleen Heffner. Burial will be at Hartford, Mo., Friday afternoon.

The son of William and Sarah Farrell Ridgeway, he was born April 28, 1914, near Hartford. He came with his family to the Kellogg area in 1919 and attended school there. The family later moved to the Jacob Switch community until 1936. During that period, Mr. Ridgeway's parents both died, and he moved to Grinnell.

While living here, Mr. Ridgeway performed various jobs such as raking, mowing and minor construction work.

He lived at 114 Broad St. until moving to the Lone Elm Nursing Home. In 1982, he moved to the Montezuma Senior Home, and in the fall of last year moved to the Riverview Manor Nursing Home.

He is survived by two brothers, Thomas and Marion Ridgeway, both of Hartford. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, George, Hubert and Edgar Ridgeway; and two sisters, Nancy and Abbie Ridgeway.
