LETHA A. BUCHENAU

Graveside services were held Monday forenoon, Nov. 30, at the Brooklyn Memorial Cemetery for Mrs. Letha A. Buchenau, 93, of Brooklyn, who died Thursday, Nov. 26, 1998, in the Brookhaven Nursing Home, Brooklyn. The Rev. William Daylong, pastor of Grace United Methodist Church, officiated.

Letha A. Buchenau, daughter of Francis Keller and Rozella Gardner Keller, was born July 19, 1905, in a log cabin at North Vernon, Ind. She moved with her family to Brooklyn in 1918. She was a graduate of the Brooklyn High School, and taught school for several years.

On Oct. 18, 1925, she was married to Edgar Paulsen Buchenau in Brooklyn. They lived in Brooklyn. Edgar died Feb. 8, 1988. Since December 1995, Mrs. Buchenau has been a resident of Brookhaven Nursing Home.

She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church and Rebekah Lodge. For many years she was a Sunday school teacher and helped with the Methodist church rummage sale.

She was preceded in death by her husband, three sisters, and eight brothers.

Survivors include her daughter, Bonnie Burry, and her husband, Bernard, of Cedar Rapids; one son, Theodore, and is wife, Darlene, of Hiawatha; one grandson, Robert Buchenau, and his wife, Mary, of Coralville; one great-grandson; three step-great-grandchildren; and a step-great-great-grandson.

Nevenhoven Funeral Services was in charge of arrangements. A memorial fund has been established for BGM Citizens Scholarship Foundation.
