MARY CATHERINE SHADEL

Mrs. Mary Shadel of Brooklyn, was born Mary Catherine Miller to John Miller and Catherine Shank, on August 11th, 1876, and died in her home near Brooklyn, January 18th, 1956.

She attended rural schools near Brooklyn then moved with her family in 1893 to Sheridan township.

She was married to Andrew Shadel on February 3rd, 1897. In 1907, the couple moved to Madison township where both held residence until their deaths, his in December, 1949, seven years prior to hers.

Also preceding her in death were her parents, one brother and two sisters.

During life, Mrs. Shadel belonged to several organizations including the Madison Church of Christ, the Ladies Aid and the Rebekah lodge. Of the latter, she had served as a past noble grand.

Surviving her are: a daughter Mrs. Pete (Mabel) Keller of Brooklyn; four grandchildren, Mrs. Lerene Archer of Des Moines, Mrs. Virginia Gardner of Elmhurst, Illinois, Mrs. Wanda Stirniman of Channahon, Illinois and Laural Keller of Brooklyn; a sister, Mrs. Ida Heishman; three-half brothers, Elza, Lester and Clifford Heishman and nine great grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted at the Madison Church of Christ, Friday, January 20th at 2 p.m. in Brooklyn. Elder Stephen J. Epler officiated and the Bramer Funeral Home was in charge.

Mrs. Henry Hendrickson served as the organist while Mrs. Charles Jones, Mrs. Homer Ryan and Mrs. Charles DePauw were in charge of the floral arrangements.

THe pallbearers were: Howard Lang, Glen Read, Glen Hall, James Keller, C.W. Fowler and William Smith.

Interment was held in Brooklyn's I.O.O.F. cemetery.
