William Wesley Meredith was born in Guilford Co., N.C., March 3, 1829, and died at his home in Poweshiek county, March 20, 1909, at the age of 80 years and 17 days. He was the youngest of a family of eight children and the last surviving of the family of eight children and the last surviving of the family. He moved from North Carolina to Indiana when but a child and lived there until manhood. In 1849 he was married to Miss Martha Burkett, to this union seven children were born, four boys and three girls,of whom five are still living and attended the funeral. He removed with his family to Iowa in 1859 and settled in this vicinity where he remained until death. He leaves to mourn their loss and aged wife, five children and a host of relatives and friends. He was a kind neighbor, a loving husband and father and will be missed so much especially in the home. He was a birthright member of the Friends Association and lived in that faith. Funeral services were held in the Friends church at Lynnville, Sunday March 21 1909, at 2 p.m. conducted by Rev. W.P. Robertson, after which the remains were laid to rest in the Friends cemetery east of town. The bereaved ones have the sympathy of their many friends in their sad affliction.
