STEWART H. BELL PASSES

Venerable Resident of Grinnell Died Early Sunday at Community Hospital.

FUNERAL THURSDAY, 2 O'CLOCK P.M. FROM HOME

Burial in Hickory Grove Cemetery.
Mr. Bell Was Old Soldier and Respected Citizen.

Stewart H. Bell, for many years a respected resident of this community, passed away early Sunday morning at the Community Hospital at the advanced age of 88 years, 4 months, and 9 days.

Funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the home, 1707 Seventh Ave., conducted by Rev. W.B. Wilson. Burial will be in the Hickory Grove cemetery in the neighborhood where Mr. Bell lived and worked during his active life. In those days he lived neighbor to Anson Moxley who wrote the obituary notice which follows:

Stewart H. Bell was born on Nov. 4 in the year 1838 in St. Joseph county, Ind., and died on March 13th, 1927. He enlisted as a private in Co. I, the 126th regiment, Illlinois Infantry, Aug. 23, 1862, and was discharged on July 12, 1865 at Pine Bluff, Ark.

On Feb. 20, 1866, he was united in marriage to Miss Mary Carothers at Niles, Mich.

They came to this section of country in the year 1875 in a covered wagon, and located on a farm about eleven miles northwest of Grinnell where they lived for 33 years. In the year 1908 they moved to Grinnell where they resided until his death.

In the year 1926 they celebrated the 60th anniversary of their wedding day.

To this union seven children were born: Harvey Bell of Portland, Oregon, George Bell of Eden, Mont., Oliver Bell, of Grinnell, Mrs. Stella Hinton of Fort Dodge, Mrs. Rosa Walker of Grinnell, Mrs. Alverta Ahrens of Estherville and Adda Bell of Grinnell. There are forty-one grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
