ADA C. SUMPTER

Ada C. Sumpter, 78, of Grinnell died of congestive heart failure Sunday, May 5, at Christus St. Partick's Hospital in Lake Charles, La.

Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Smith Funeral Home, with Darren Wize, pastor of Bible Missionary Church in Newton, officiating. Pianist will be Pam Gaskins, and pallbearers will be Lanny Brand; David, Denny, Eldon and Randy Criswell; Myron and Terry Fraker; Mark Martin and Glen Thompson.

Burial will be at Westfield Cemetery southwest of Grinnell.

The daughter of Elmer and Linda Tuggle Criswell, she was born March 24, 1924, in Monticello, Ky. She later moved with her family to Grinnell and received her education in the Grinnell schools.

She was married to Clyde Sumpter Oct. 4, 1943, in Chariton. They continued to make their home in Grinnell.

Mrs. Sumpter was employed by the Grinnell Shoe Company, Maytag in Newton and The Grinnell Herald-Register. She was a member of the Bible Missionary Church in Newton. She had lived in Lake Charles since March.

Surviving are one son, Steve of Lake Charles; three grandchildren; one great-grandchild; three brothers, Denny Criswell of Des Moines, David Criswell of Reasnor and Eldon Criswell of Trenton, Mo.; and five sisters, Ruth Martin, Audeen Thompson and Anna Lee Horstman, all of Grinnell, and Audrey Brand and Kathy Van Norden, both of Sully.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one son, Gerald W.; three brothers, Herman, Paul and Bernard Criswell; and two sisters, Anita Fraker and Edith Barkley.

An Ada C. Sumpter Memorial Fund has been established.
