BERNARD CRISWELL

A. Bernard "Curly" Criswell, 65, of Grinnell died of a stroke Sunday, July 18, at Grinnell Regional Medical Center.

Funeral services were conducted Wednesday afternoon at the Smith Funeral Home, with Pastor David Easley of the Hercules Community Church in Bradleyville, Mo., and Pastor Darrin Wize of the Bible Missionary Church in Newton officiating. Casket bearers were Jim Crawford, Allen Criswell, Richard Ferguson, Jim French, Allen Gaskins, Darrin Gaskins and Steve Sumpter.

Burial was in Westfield Cemetery south of Grinnell.

He was born Sept. 25, 1933, in Grinnell to Elmer and Linda Tuggle Criswell. He was raised in Grinnell and attended Grinnell schools. Following his education, he worked for the Maytag Company in Newton. He servied with the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict.

He was married to Judy Bunch July 8, 1955, in Grinnell. They lived in Grinnell, and Mr. Criswell worked for Lang's Farms and for Clark and Hinegardner Painting Service before operating his own painting service here.

Surviving are is wife; two daughters, Susan Crawford of Grinnell and Pam Gaskins of Columbus, Ind.; one son, Randy of Malcom; five grandchildren; six sisters, Ada Sumpter, Ruth Martin, Audeen Thompson and Analee Horstmann, all of Grinnell, and Audrey Brand and Kathy Van Norden, both of Sully; and three brothers, Denny of Des Moines, David of Galesburg and Eldon of Trenton, Mo.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Edith Barkley and Anita Fraker; and two brothers, Herman and Paul.
