CARMA J. MOHLER, 80

Carma J. Mohler, 80, of Brooklyn, died Wednesday, Sept. 8, 2004, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City.

Graveside services were held on Saturday, September 11, at the Brooklyn Memorial Cemetery, Brooklyn. The Rev. David Rogula, pastor of Grace United Methodist Church, officiated. Members of the American Legion conducted military rites.

A memorial fund has been established for Grace United Methodist Church of Brooklyn or Kidney Foundation of Iowa.

Nevenhoven Funeral Home, Brooklyn, was in charge of arrangements.

Carma J. Edelen Mohler was born December 16, 1923, in Poweshiek County, to Anna Gloe and John C. Edelen. She attended rural schools and Brooklyn High School, graduating in 1941. She graduated from St. Thomas Mercy School of Nursing, Marshalltown, in 1944 as an R.N.; graduated from St. John's School of Anesthesiology (Sangamon State University), Springfield, Ill. in 1947 as a C.R.N.; and served in the U.S. Army Nurses Corps in SW Pacific during WWII and in the Korean War.

She lived in Chicago and Ft. Dodge prior to her marriage to J. Emerson Mohler in 1951. They resided in Des Moines. He died in 1963. Carma married E.E. Augustine in 1965, and this marriage was dissolved in 1971. Carma retired from Air Force Reserves in 1969 with 21 years of service.

She worked for the Veterans Administration Hospital Dept. of Anesthesia from 1953 to 1974. She practiced part time anesthesia at Northwest Hospital, Des Moines and Skiff Memorial Hospital from 1974 until 1979. She moved to Brooklyn in 1976.

She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, American Legion, V.F.W., Retired Federal Employees Assoc., Reserve Officers Association and American Association of Nurse Anesthetists.

Her parents and husband preceded her in death. There are no immediate survivors
