LESLIE I. HILDEBRAND, 89

Leslie I. Hildebrand, 89, of Grinnell, died Tuesday, Sept. 30, 2003, at St. Francis Manor in Grinnell.

His funeral service was Monday, Oct. 6, at Watts Funeral Home in Montezuma with the Rev. Len Eberhart of the United Methodist Church, Grinnell, officiating. Watts Funeral Home of Montezuma was in charge of the arrangements.

Leslie was born April 28, 1914, near Forest Home in Poweshiek County. He attended school at Montezuma for several years and graduated from Lacey High School at Lacey. On Dec. 28, 1937, Leslie was united in marriage with Esther McNeal at Lancaster, Mo. To this union three daughters were born, Cheryl, Vicki and Lezlie. They farmed and lived near New Sharon, Barnes City and Montezuma before operating the Coast to Coast store in Montezuma for seven years. They moved to Grinnell about 25 years ago.

He is survived by his wife, Esther, of Grinnell, and their family, Cheryl (Laurence) Pitcher of Colorado Springs, Colo.; Vicki (Dan) Bunnell of Grinnell and Lezlie Hildebrand (Bob) Melendy of Tampa, Fla.; four grandchildren, Laine Melendy, Danielle Melendy, Natasha Bunnell and her husband Jim Pitchford and Marc Bunnell; one great-grandchild, William Pitchford; one step-granddaughter, Michelle (Steve) Trulaske; two step-great-grandchildren, Steven Trulaske and Kay Trulaske, and other relatives and many friends.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Lester, John and Ray and one sister, Faye Stutzman.

Memorials in his name may be made to the Grinnell United Methodist Church or the Montezuma United Methodist Church.
